Introduction to Meghan a ChemE Major

In case you couldn't tell from the incredibly boring title, I am not great at talking about myself. I always have a hard time deciding what actually makes me interesting or what people want to hear about me so I'll start with the basics.

I am a senior chemical engineering major here at OU. I have three cats at home but they're a pretty new addition so I don't have any pictures yet (sad I know). I've always wanted a dog but my mom doesn't like them so here we are. I never tell anyone I'm from somewhere since my family has moved almost every three years since I can remember. To date I have lived in: Hazen, ND, Salt Lake City, UT, San Antonio, TX, Ardmore, OK, San Antonio, TX (again), Nashville, TN, Prosper, TX, and of course Norman, OK. Moving around so much gave me a lot of appreciation for new places and new people. I enjoy traveling and am not afraid to go somewhere new. After graduation, I will be moving to Memphis, TN to start my new job!

My family is very small (I only have two cousins in my whole family!), because of that we are very close. I'm actually the oldest of three sisters, with one a year younger, and one twelve years younger. Me and Maddie (the older) are always mistaken for twins but we really couldn't be more different.

Growing up with a sister my age and a kid sister has been crazy fun. We fight a lot but we also have the best time together.

It's not all smiles trying to keep up with someone twelve years younger than you though.

Besides the basics, I'm a pretty average human. I watch too much Chopped, Four Weddings, Fixer Upper, and Jeopardy. I love to read really any and everything fiction (but I hardly have time for it anymore). I love board games and crossword puzzles and hate sodoku. I like all genres of music but really only listen to the same three hundred songs I've had since high school. I like any and all food and love to cook and bake. I like watching and playing sports but hate running. Most importantly, I haven't done any creative writing for four years so be patient!

  2. We moved all around when I was growing up too, Meghan... and Nashville was one of the places I lived! Memphis is also such a fun city: how exciting that you have a job lined up there and are ready to go. And if you need a jolt for your creative storytelling, I am sure that Sammy can help out. Maybe you can make her the heroine of some adventures; people have done Storybooks in this class featuring their little brothers and sisters, their children, and even their grandchildren (we get all ages in this class). Or maybe you can do an Egyptian mythology project set in THAT ancient city of Memphis. The power of Myth-Folklore can take you anywhere and anywhen :-)

  3. Hi Meghan,
Wow! I am sure you have a bunch of stories from all the places you lived that will inspire you to write great stories. Memphis will be a fun city to live in after you graduate. Chemical engineering is a tough major. Seeing my friends struggle through it makes me even appreciate those who are successful! Congrats to you! Also, Chopped is one of my favorite shows, too.
I can't wait to see how your stories evolve as the semester goes on.
Looking forward to this semester with you!

  4. Hey Meghan,
I think we lived on the same hall freshman year. Good to see you again! Your family seems really fun.
I have a couple of friends in Chem E and they say it's a love-hate relationship. I'm very impressed with y'all for doing such hard work. If you're into board games and word games you should check out Bananagrams, it's one of my faves. Good luck with the creative writing this semester!

  5. Hi, Meghan!

I'm also the oldest of three sisters! Except my younger sister is a freshman at OU right now, and my youngest sister is a junior in high school, so we don't have quite the age gap that your family does. Coincidentally, my family also has three cats back home as well!

Chopped is one of my favorite shows to binge-watch on Netflix. It makes me feel like I know what I'm doing in the kitchen even though I can barely make spaghetti. I'm not a huge Jeopardy fan, but I love putting on the Game Show Network when I'm feeling lazy and just watching Family Feud re-runs or any of the other weird game shows that are on.

Memphis, TN sounds like a really interesting place to live after graduating. I hope your job goes well, good luck!

  6. Hey, Meghan!

You've got quite the impressive resume of cities under your belt! Plus, it's neat that you like to play board games -- my roommates and I have spent lots of weekends playing Catan and Ticket to Ride. I've never watched the other three shows you mentioned, but I'm a huge Chopped fan. The Food Network is my family's weakness and we always flip it on when we're on vacation together. Good luck this semester!

  7. Hi Meghan!

Oh my goodness, can I first just say that I LOVE Fixer Upper? I want to be Joanna Gaines when I grow up. Both my siblings are pretty close to me in age, but when I got married I gained a whole bunch of new siblings and cousins in a wide range of ages, and now I can 100% relate to the struggle of keeping up with a baby sis that much younger than you. Good luck this semester!

  8. Hello, Meghan! I can honestly relate to your struggle in determining which, if any, of your traits or hobbies classify you as interesting. It is reassuring to know that I am not the only one with that problem. I cannot believe that you are moving to Tennessee soon! It is always nice to hear about the achievements of others. Congratulations!

  9. Hey there Meghan!
It is very cool that you are a ChemE, I am finishing my last semester for Mechanical Engineering. I totally understand where you are coming from saying that moving around a lot gave you a lot of appreciation for new places. This is because I have actually lived in two other countries. Good lich with your future job and good luck this semester!

  10. Hey Meghan!

Congrats on your last semester here at OU and congrats on getting a job! I absolutely love Memphis! It is one of my favorite places in the south by so far! There is so much culture and music that it is just hard not to love such a great place like that. I also love watching Chopped as well. The chef's have to get really creative with their dishes so it really keeps me on my toes.

  11. Hey Meghan!
I cannot even imagine moving around so much! I've lived within the same 30 minute drive of land my entire life, so it's hard to grasp how your life has differed. I can, however, relate to having a small family - I'm one of about five grandchildren total on my mom's side, with most of us well-spread out around the country by this point.
From one senior to another, good luck here at the end of the world!

  12. Hi Meghan!

So awesome seeing a ChemE major on here. I'm Chem&Biochem, not as difficult but still us STEM people need some appreciation snaps since there are so many other creative people here (amirite?). Congrats on getting a job! The transition must be easier for you considering how much you've moved around, but it is still an exciting time and a new chapter of your life. I agree with many of your own interests (mainly participating in sports but hating running). It was great getting to know you! Can't wait to see what you contribute this year!

  13. Hi Meghan! How cool that you have had the opportunity to live in so many different places! Congrats on your job in Memphis after graduating, that is super exciting! ! I love cats, but I am a dog person! Growing up, I had two cats and dog and they seemed to get along just fine! It was so nice getting to know you a little better and I hope you have a great rest of the semester! Good Luck!

  14. Hey Meghan,

It's really cool that you have had the opportunity to live in so many different and unique places in your life! Congrats on being so close to graduating and congrats on getting a job, that is such a huge deal! I am a big fan of cats, but not as much as I love dogs, so I guess I'm just an animal person in general. It's been great to get to know you a little! Keep doing big things!

  15. Hey Meghan,
I can related with moving around. I have also lived in several places and have traveled to many more. It certainly does give you an appreciation for new experiences. Congrats on being so close to graduation with a pretty difficult degree and having a job lined up. Tennessee is a pretty cool state too! You and your sisters seem really close which is awesome. I am closer to my brother than my sister but it looks like y’all have a great relationship.
Good luck with the class, it has been a while since I have had to do any creative writing too but I bet we can do it!
I look forward to reading your stories,
    Elyse

  16. Hey Meghan,

It sure sounds like you have seen a good amount of the United States with all your moving around. I wonder which one is your favorite. I found it funny that you have a sister roughly your age and a sister a lot younger than you because I do too. I'm the oldest sister, and I have also run into the same situation where a lot of people have asked me and my older sister of the two if we are twins. We are definitely different in a lot of ways, but I guess people don't see that. You seem to be doing well with your writing, so keep it up!

  17. Hey, Meghan!

Wow, I don't think I've ever met someone with such a small extended family! My mother's side is really small (only three cousins) but my father's is really large (I don't even know how many cousins I have on that side!). I think it is so cool that you have a sister so close to your age and one so much younger--two very different experiences! I only have one sister and she is three years older--kind of an awkward age gap! Anyway, I think you sound really interesting and fun--love the Disney World pics!

Congrats and good luck on your new job in Memphis and on graduating from OU!

  18. Hey Meghan!
It sounds liked you’ve had a pretty exciting life! I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like to see so many places as a kid. I got to travel a bit, but I was born and raised in Norman and ended up at OU (obviously). Do you think you’ll settle down once college is over, or do you want to keep going from place to place?
Best of luck the rest of this semester!

  19. Hi Meghan!

It sounds like you have such great relationship with your sisters! That is so special and so important. I also see that you guys went to Disney World. That is awesome! My family and I love Disney and are actually visiting again in June. We can't wait. I have also moved around quite a bit growing up so I completely understand the struggle of going from place to place. It is also such a blessing to be able to experience different people, places, and cultures. Best of luck with eh remainder of the semester!

  20. Hey Meghan,

Congrats on making it to your final semester of undergrad! And a bigger congrats on landing the job!! I couldn't imagine what it is like to have a younger sibling who is THAT much younger. My little brother is just over two years younger. I think it is really cool that you've been able to move around to so many different places. It helps you in the long run, in my opinion. I hope you enjoy your last few weeks of school. It is almost over for the both of us :(.

    Good luck!

  21. Hey Meghan,
Wow, I can’t imagine living in all those places! I’ve lived in Norman my entire life. The only time I’ve lived outside of Oklahoma was when I did a study abroad program in Scotland for a month; that’s it. That must be pretty cool to be so well traveled. I see we’re both in the final stretch of our last semester; I don’t know about you but the senoritis is strong at the moment. You say you’re out of practice with writing creative stories, but I think you’re doing pretty good so far :)

  22. Hey howdy Meghan the Chem E Major! It sounds like you have so much to look forward to and at the same time, have such great memories to lean back on. Having a kid sister would be so much fun, though I am sure frustrating at times. But at least you have another your own age to relate with. Even if you're opposites! Good luck in Memphis, I am looking forward to reading your work!

  23. Hey Meghan!

I have a few friends that are aspiring chemical engineers, and so I'm well aware that ChemE is no joke, so congrats on doing that! It sounds like you have a lot going on, but being busy isn't always a bad thing! I am the kid sibling in my family (the youngest), so I know it can be a tough! Good luck this semester and in Memphis!

Here is my storybook site! (Ring on Book by Ylanite Koppens ) Will You Marry Me?

Week 2 Story: The King and the Farmer's Daughter

There once was a village on the edge of a large kingdom. In this village lived the beautiful and clever daughter of a poor farmer and his wife. In this kingdom, there also lived a king renowned for his riches and power. One day the king came to the village to collect taxes where he caught sight of the girl. Struck by her beauty, he went to her parents and demanded her hand in marriage. While her parents did not want to force their daughter into a marriage, they did not wish to enrage such a powerful king. They went to their daughter and informed her of the king’s demands. The girl asked to speak to the king herself. The next day the king met the girl at her home. Once again struck by her beauty, the king demanded, “Be my bride.” The girl responded, “My lord, I am but the daughter of a lowly farmer, I am not worthy of being your bride. My parents do not have any money to their name.” The king was so in love with her beauty he granted her all the jewels in the castle treasury. The next d
